Keep it Simple, Make the Savings
The Value of Commvault Software - Part 1
Over the course of the next three blog posts, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reasons for implementing Commvault data management, under the headings of simplicity, risk reduction and productivity gains.
At a top level, Commvault delivers services ranging from data protection and archiving to data indexing and end user search recovery, from a single platform across all of your enterprise resources – be it on premise, in the cloud or distributed on your endpoint devices.
That’s a compelling message that resonates whether your focus is on business or IT. The latter benefits because their job is made easier. Commvault’s single codebase delivers a consistent experience in multiple use cases of content indexing. As a result, IT teams have more time and resources to add value elsewhere in their organisation (a theme I’ll return to in a future blog post). The business also benefits because of the cost savings, so it’s a win-win.
IDC recently conducted a random survey across Commvault’s global customer base to identify those savings that Commvault delivers in greater detail, and we’d like to share some of the findings. I’ll add an important caveat here: no Irish organisations were polled in the survey, and the nature of the market here, with a higher percentage of small-to-medium-sized organisations means the figures may not map exactly to their experiences. That being said, I know from working with our customers here in Ireland that the broad findings from the survey are absolutely valid.
As you’ll see from the infographic on this page [click to download], the survey identified savings across four key areas: data protection and data management software is cut down by 52%, followed closely by compliance, ediscovery and insurance (51%). Commvault customers also report their spending on data storage and management hardware, as well as data protection and data management services are down by 42%.
The survey also uncovered savings in annual overhead for IT teams across a variety of metrics, from running scripts – which was the single biggest saving by some distance – through to data protection and backup solutions and vendors.
Another key takeaway figure is that Commvault software also reduced average annual IT administration time that would have been spent on data protection and data management tasks by 42%.
Is your business or IT team still struggling to maintain and control the cost of data management and infrastructure? We’d love to hear from you.
