Why We’re Backing Commvault For Data Management
Over the years at SureSkills, our customers have known us for being independent and technology-neutral. We have always prided ourselves on our ability to diagnose the best solutions for customers rather than prescribing from a narrowly defined menu.
Like most technology providers, we naturally have partnerships because we’ve always believed it’s better to have evaluated vendors on behalf of our customers, rather than presenting a bewildering array of options to pick from – especially if those customers don’t have the time or breadth of technical experience to judge for themselves and relied on us for guidance.
(The reason for this is, most large organisations and especially financial intuitions’ internal staff are only exposed to their own environment – and sometimes only small sections of that. The restrictions and regulations on changing the environment limit their chance to carry out these tasks.)
Our stance is partly for pragmatic reasons: the nature of IT means that most customers’ sites run a mix of heterogeneous systems that have been built up over time. Lots of times, we’ve been called in to integrate the technology that we propose, together with the infrastructure that’s already in place. All of that’s to say that we are used to working with many different technologies – we’ve seen them all.
But every now and then, a technology comes along that has ‘industry leader’ written all over it. Commvault is just such a technology, and we have decided to get behind it as the primary data management solution we plan to offer. We thought we’d share with you the reasons why we’re backing Commvault.
One:
We’ve listened to our customers: many organisations want to deal with a single solution for data protection needs, so our ability to provide Commvault’s single console to manage an entire data environment – whether that’s in the cloud or on premise – is a really compelling offer.
Two:
Commvault is a long-standing vendor that has built a dedicated solution for data management as a single integrated code base, evolving this for more than 20 years not some hype-fuelled start-up. We have been a Commvault strategic partner since 2001, delivering quality and knowledge, as well as high-quality support and managed services. SureSkills is the only Commvault Authorised Support Partner (CASP) in Ireland and delivers support to organisations across Europe. We’re also Ireland’s only official Commvault Training provider so we’re ideally placed to plug any knowledge gaps our customers may have on management and administration.
SureSkills is launching a managed data protection offering that will deliver enterprise-class protection along with secure cloud storage of data that will enable small and mid-sized companies to access features and capabilities that were previously inaccessible. This extends to enhanced management and reporting of existing on premise Commvault instances.
During that time every single one of our customers that has implemented storage and data management from Commvault has been satisfied. In fact, no one has walked away yet. This is evidenced by the respected technology research advisor Gartner placing Commvault as a leader in its magic quadrant for backup and recovery, ahead of IBM, EMC, Veritas and HPE – a position it has held for six years.
GDPR
With one eye on the EU General Data Protection Regulation, implementing Commvault’s data lifecycle management can also play a big part in helping an organisation comply with a more stringent set of data protection rules than we’ve ever had before.
Upcoming Event
Next month, we’ll be running an invite-only event in Dublin to showcase the power of Commvault when it’s combined with Microsoft’s cloud offerings. Commvault allows organisations to manage SharePoint, Exchange and O365, Active Directory, SQL, file system and other application data across Windows and Unix with a single platform.
